How to Avoid Dry, Chapped Skin From Hand-Washing

Frequent handwashing and regular use of a sanitizer are integral attributes of the new “covid” reality and the most important conditions for combating the spread of the coronavirus. However, such an intensive hygiene regimen can negatively affect the skin’s condition and lead to discomfort. We will tell you how to take care of your hands in our difficult times.

The use of a sanitizer is very significant

There are no restrictions on how many times a day you can use it, but it is influential to remember that the antiseptic contains alcohol, which dries the skin of the hands. That’s why if you have dry hands from hand sanitizer, you should always have a moisturizer with you and place it on the sink next to the soap so that you can apply it to your skin immediately after washing your hands. And if you have dry hands from washing, we do not recommend washing your hands with hot water – this will only increase dryness and irritation.

The skin on the hands is poorly moisturized due to the almost absence of sebaceous glands compared to other areas of the body. For this reason, hands require careful care and unique moisturizing, nourishing and protective products.

If you suffer from dry skin from washing hands, we chose some hand skincare rules

Use regular washing with mild products that do not dry out the skin

After washing, hands should be gently but thoroughly dried with a dry, clean towel. Insufficient wiping provokes dryness. Special moisturizers and lotions should not be applied from time to time but every day. When performing any work (washing dishes, floriculture, etc.), such products must have the functions of protection and increased moisture/nutrition. In addition, work should be done with special gloves. With a deficiency of vitamins in the body, it is necessary to use unique vitamin and mineral complexes. From time to time, you can pamper your hands by arranging a home spa procedure (baths, masks, etc.)

Hands creams are your best friends

If your hands are dry permanently, and you suffer from hands peeling from washing, you should pay attention to the hand creams in every season of the year. Almost all hand creams aim to restore the water-lipid layer, but for comfort, try to use lighter-textured products during the day and apply a thick, oily cream at night. In this case, full-fledged hand skincare, the use of all kinds of masks, including in the form of gel gloves, as well as paraffin applications, will be more than appropriate. When choosing a cream, be guided by the composition. Give preference to products containing vitamin E (tocopherol acetate), vitamin F, provitamin B (panthenol), lactic acid, urea, avocado, and jojoba oils. If there are no unique problems on the skin, you can use your usual moisturizing or anti-aging hand cream of your favorite brand – and apply it more often than usual.
